What is the best task or project using a laptop

Dear Maine Educators,

In 2011 we asked students to participate in our Mainely Digital Video Project by creating short (3-5 minute) videos about strong 1-to-1 teaching and learning practices that are occurring in Maine middle and high school classrooms. With design features based on the MLTI/ACTEMWatchMECreate” Project, our intent was to provide teachers with additional examples of good teaching in 1-to-1 environments.

Students submitted videos and we selected several of these for stage 2 of the project – viewing by Maine educators! While our primary hope was that Maine educators would find these videos helpful, we also wanted to use Maine educators’ comments to help the students improve their video skills while using ratings of the videos to further reward the students who produced them – the higher the average ratings, the more “bonus” money the student producers would receive. The question commenters/raters were asked to keep in mind in rating the videos was: “Will this video be helpful to teachers who want to improve their teaching with the MLTI laptops?”

The commenting and rating period has now ended, the comments have been posted, and the average ratings have been computed – these (and the videos) can be found by clicking on “view videos” above. Congratulations again to all the student producers:

  • Devon Bray, Yarmouth High School
  • Elijah Breton, Poland Regional High School
  • Elisabeth Clark, Harrison Middle School
  • Michelle Clark, Yarmouth High School
  • Grant Gilman, Harrison Middle School
  • Gina Pardi, Falmouth Middle School
  • Mike Rodway, Telstar Regional Middle School

Sincerely,

John Newlin
