The transition from a traditional teaching model to the effective utilization of 1–to-1 laptop access for all learners in Maine’s middle schools recognizes that changing student practice is a core responsibility. To this end, we must realize that any school is a complex system, and that student practice cannot be changed independently of other system participants. This makes it clear that in order to change student practice, teacher practices must change, and in order for teacher practices to change, administrative practices must change, and community practices drive those administrative practices.
